What is this book about?

The Thunderhead cannot interfere in the affairs of the Scythedom. All it can do is observe—it does not like what it sees.

A year has passed since Rowan had gone off grid. Since then, he has become an urban legend, a vigilante snuffing out corrupt scythes in a trial by fire. His story is told in whispers across the continent.

As Scythe Anastasia, Citra gleans with compassion and openly challenges the ideals of the “new order.” But when her life is threatened and her methods questioned, it becomes clear that not everyone is open to the change.

Will the Thunderhead intervene?

Or will it simply watch as this perfect world begins to unravel?

What I thought of it?

I had the exact same feeling about The Toll, as I did about Thunderhead.

First of all, I - yet again - read this series when I was not the mood for it, but I thought it was useless to wait before reading the last book of the series. And yet again, I could not help but be in awe in front of the world, but also the complexity of the characters Neal Shusterman created in these books.

But, as in the second book, I found the pacing of this third installment to be really slow in the first half, for the action to truly pick up in the second half. But in The Toll, I felt like the action was worth the wait and the built up.

Also, in The Toll, I really enjoyed all the different point of views and I felt like I was more connected to the characters than in Thunderhead (perhaps because many were only introduced in book two and I was now familiar with them?).

During this entire book, I could not predict or guess where the story was going and how it could possibly end. And to me, that ending was absolutely what the series deserved and needed.

So, overall, this was a great series and I highly recommend reading them, if it is your style of book and if you are in the mood for them.
