What is this book about?

Dark Shores (book #1) and Dark Skies (book #2) can be read in whatever order, as long as you read both before Gilded Serpent (book #3)

A RUNAWAY WITH A HIDDEN PAST
Lydia is a scholar, but books are her downfall when she meddles in the plots of the most powerful man in the Celendor Empire. Her life in danger, she flees west to the far side of the Endless Seas and finds herself entangled in a foreign war where her burgeoning powers are sought by both sides.

A COMMANDER IN DISGRACE
Killian is Marked by the God of War, but his gifts fail him when the realm under the dominion of the Corrupter invades Mudamora. Disgraced, he swears his sword to the kingdom’s only hope: the crown princess. But the choice sees him caught up in a web of political intrigue that will put his oath – and his heart – to the test.

A KINGDOM UNDER SIEGE
With Mudamora falling beneath the armies of the Corrupter, Lydia and Killian strike a bargain to save those they love most—but it is a bargain with unintended and disastrous consequences. Truths are revealed, birthrights claimed, and loyalties questioned—all while a menace deadlier and more far-reaching than they realize sweeps across the world.

What I thought of it?

Let’s be honest, the cover of Dark Skies is the reason I started this series and I’m glad for it!

Dark Shores was a super great first book, but I struggled a little to truly connect with the characters.

However, Dark Skies offers two new points of view and I loved Killian and Lydia so much! I loved their dynamic and how their stories developed throughout this entire book and I can’t wait to read Gilded Serpent (and even the prequel, Tarnished Empire before that!)

That being said, I struggled a little at the beginning of the book (the first 130 pages). I hadn’t read the synopsis prior to that and I failed to see where the story was going. I thought the beginning was a bit slow. But to be fair, the story needed to be probably set before it could really take off.

And it did take off! Passed a certain point in the book, I was really intrigued by the story that I could not put this book down. And towards the end, I was honestly blown away by how good the twits were and even how good this book was in general!

So overall, I loved Marcus and Teriana in the first book, but Killian and Lydia are now my favs.
